EMS Provider to Radio Operator/EMS Provider
NYC-ARECS
will provide free materials and training for any volunteer EMS
member who is interested in becoming a team Emergency Communications
Radio Operator. This requires a Federal Communications Commission
(FCC) license for 'amateur radio.'
The FCC license
is issued for 10 years, and the testing is offered once a month
in NYC. The test takes approximately one hour and if you pass
you are issued a call sign by the FCC. Once licensed, you can
immediately utilize any of NYC-ARECS partnered, 10 city-wide radio
repeaters, 24/7 even for your own personal use.
